The 20th Teen Choice Awards was a night to remember. With powerful performances from headliners OneRepublic, Jordan McGraw and Sarah Hyland – to its YouTube-famous co-host David Dobrik, who counts 13.3 million subscribers, and various special guests, the 2019 awards ceremony was a raucous party. Let’s recap five of the show’s most notable moments.
That time Nina Dobrev donned fangs in emotional speech
The Vampire Diaries alumni marked her shock exit from the fan-favorite show – TVD was nominated a record-breaking 67 times! – by donning a pair of vampire fangs while accepting the award for Choice TV Actress: Fantasy/Sci-Fi for her role as Elena Gilbert.
“As this chapter of my life comes to an end, I look back on it with a grateful heart and a big smile,” she told the audience in 2015.
The Twilight cast gives back to fans – literally
Twilight’s world-famous trio reunited at the show’s 12th edition to receive the Ultimate Choice Award – their 41st (!) award for the trilogy – before handing their surfboards to the excited crowd.
Fast & Furious cast pays tribute to Paul Walker
The Fast and the Furious cast took to the stage at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards to accept the award for Choice Movie: Action for their action-packed blockbuster Furious 7.
Addressing the crowd at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, Vin Diesel said:”One of the best lessons in our lives is the fact that we had the opportunity call Pablo our brother.” The cast went on to dedicate the award to Walker’s daughter Meadow.
Taylor Swift nabs honorary Ultimate Choice Award
Emma Stone was on hand to present the then 20-year old Swift with the Ultimate Choice Award, alongside her wins for Female Artist, Country Artist, Country Single, Breakup Song and Red Carpet Fashion Icon.
Fast-forward 8 years, and Taylor’s done it again. The artist is set to receive the event’s first-ever Icon Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards.
Leah Michele remembers Cory Monteith
Back in 2013, Glee actress Lea Michele delivered a moving speech in honor of her co-star and real life boyfriend Cory Monteith while accepting her award for Choice TV Actress.
Prior to Michele’s tearful speech, the Glee cast took the stage to dedicate the show’s win – the show took home the award for Choice TV Show: Comedy – to Monteith, who had passed away from a drug overdose only a month before the event.
The 2019 Teen Choice Awards ceremony will be held on August 11 2019 at 8pm ET in Hermosa Beach, California.
