The last couple of weeks have shown what excellent journalists we have. It’s not propaganda. We really have had some great successes – unfortunately at the price of covering incredibly sad events.

Ahead of everyone
The Indonesian, Lion Air plane crash has been in the news around the world. Our video news gathering teams were out as soon as its disappearance was discovered, ensuring we were ahead and continuing to closely follow the investigation. More than 1,100 TV channels worldwide in 71 countries used more than 50 edits. More than 40 hours of lives were produced with broadcasters rushing to air the pictures.

We also set up live feeds with some 72 broadcasters using our live video and a further 620 recording material for use in edits. Our flightradar24.com recording was the second-most used piece of footage on the day (625 stations) due to the volume of supporting visuals, many of which were the first. Our journalists balanced the need for sensitivity with the imperative of reporting the grief families are going through. When there’s a video first from the scene, and it’s UGC
The fast reactions of our UGC team who cleared the dramatic clip of the tragic helicopter crash carrying the Thai billionaire owner of Leicester City Football Club outside the home stadium. A photographer at the scene also filed strong video of the smouldering wreckage of the helicopter in the first few hours of this breaking story. Over 477 TV channels in 64 countries accessed our coverage.
An election-defining caravan
There is one movement that underpinned the narrative of the US midterm elections: the caravan of central American migrants as they march north, in the direction of the U.S. border. These are personal stories, and that’s exactly what we delivered. Our team has gone live along the way, finding what connectivity they can.
More than 70 channels used the footage live or in edits. Over 1,000 TV channels in 66 different countries used the footage live or in edits.
The interview everybody wanted
We have been ahead of anyone else in the Khashoggi-case and keep on doing so. Our UK bureau arranged a newsy interview with Khashoggi’s fiancée during an event in London. It was used by 70 different channels in 33 countries, including Turkey.
